One of Australia’s most original and loveable sporting heroes, Nick Cummins first gained public attention for his successful international rugby union career.
Affectionately nicknamed the ‘Honey Badger’, it was his strength, toughness and never-say-die attitude on the playing field which saw him become one of the most respected wingers in the game.
He played top level professional rugby for more than a decade, including 15 celebrated Test Match appearances for the Wallabies, 87 games for the Western Force, stints with the Australian 7’s team (which included a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games) and a number of seasons in the Japanese Top League.
But it was Cummins post-match interviews and viral Australianisms that showed an x-factor far beyond his athletic ability. With his signature look of blonde curly hair, moustache and head tape – reminiscent of eras gone by – his now famous one-liners saw him achieve the rare feat of ultimate team man, yet hugely charismatic individual.
Sensational sayings, such as “I was busier than a one-armed bricklayer in Baghdad” and “I was going off like a cut snake” defied even the dourest interviewers to hold a straight face, with Cummins single handedly transforming the talking head interview into his own unique art form.
He quickly gained a devoted following, catching the attention of global publishers, brands and television executives alike.
He tells of his happy-go-lucky approach to life in two books published by Harper Collins, Tales of The Honey Badger and Adventures of The Honey Badger, both reaching #1 on the Sports Best-Sellers list. His colourful and humorous off-the-cuff tales reflect a well-travelled life that has experienced no shortage of daring adventures.
TV’s National Geographic snapped him up for his own multi-year travel series ‘Meanwhile in Australia with Nick Cummins’, while global streaming giant, Netflix, chose him as the Australian co-host for the Sylvester Stallone-produced American sports entertainment show, ‘Ultimate Beastmaster’. He also developed, produced and starred in the hit series, ‘Off the Grid with the Badger’, in partnership with outdoor retailer, BCF.
Cummins featured in the first season of Network Seven’s ratings-winning series, SAS Australia. He was one of only three recruits to pass selection on the show and was widely regarded by the Directing Staff (DS) as the toughest competitor they had seen since the inception of the series in the UK.
Cummins spreads his time across the Rogue Gentlemen’s Club (RGC). Offering small-group adventure travel for men, it furthers a cause close to Nick’s heart – mental health, the need for men to open up about their own struggles, and the healing powers of mateship and nature.
As one of Australia’s most marketable personalities, Cummins has appeared in both national and international campaigns for leading companies and brands, including Tradie Underwear, Tourism Australia, Volkswagen, GoPro, Head & Shoulders and The Iconic.
